Evolution is one of the “dividing walls of
hostility” that have separated God’s people from each other and from others.
Though the Bible has some illustrations touching on the subject, it is grey
enough to spark debate. Whenever there is such an area, the Christian needs
to be cautious and ask, “Why?” |
|
Scientists don’t want to prove God and religious
fanatics do.
The Christian can take comfort knowing that science
has not disproven scripture. Neither has the scriptures disproven evolution.
In the book of Genesis, God speaks to the serpent and says, (Gen 3:14)” And
the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed
above all [domestic] animals and above every [wild] living thing of the
field; upon your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust [and what it
contains] all the days of your life.” (Amplified Bible) |
|
In the context of the reference, God forecasted the
changes Adam and Eve would undergo. Similarly, was God forecasting the loss
of the serpent’s legs (evolution)? That would agree with scientific belief.
Some Christians believe God stated only what the serpent would remain; and
so, aha! the grey area and room for debate. |

Brian McLaren’s fiction novel, The Story We Find
Ourselves In, is a piece of the dismantling of hostility between peoples
that Jesus came to tear down. It treats the topic of evolution, I believe,
the way Christ would. There will always be different levels of understanding
of the whole truth. We need grace for one another while we all grow. I
learned from Brian’s example. |
Language:
Evolutionists argue for an upward evolution based on
the development of language. One could argue that language is evidence for
downward evolution. If we had perfect understanding of one another, we would
not need a lot of words to explain things to one another. I can imagine that
there were few words spoken in the Garden of Eden. People with psychic
ability may be reminders of the ancient people before Babel. Whatever the
belief, Genesis 11 is a good example of speciation through isolation. As
groups become isolated, their differences become more pronounced. However,
Scripture disagrees with evolution by stating that the differences (in
language) caused the initial group isolation and not that the group isolation
caused the differences in language. |
Creation over time:
|
|
Why do we argue over time? How long did it take God
to make the universe? |
|
Time
is a mute point. |
|
God created everything with his Word. That in itself
says there was a time when you did not see what was created. He spoke of it
on the first “day”. But it may not have happened within 24 hours or 24 years
or 24 centuries. God saw it as it would be in all its goodness before it
visibly existed. It was His Word of Faith. He could have done it no other way
because that is the way He taught us to live, to believe, to create. |
